Ever since I can remember I have been creating music. It has been a natural driving force within myself that creates such intense energy that it proves itself to be impossible to contain. The only option I have is to release it. My music energy first made a definite mark in my life when I learned and practiced a few songs on the piano-my main instrument of mental composition-when I was between the ages of 3 and 4. Before that I only remember trying to sing. I wrote my first song when I was in first grade. The music style was a sort of a calypso riff using piano/vocals. Keeping on the piano, I enrolled in percussion class when I was 10. I began really getting into jazz about this time, composing some jazz of my own, influenced by artists such as Vince Guaraldi and Dave Brubeck. It was around this time I really got into electronic and dub, although the music I heard is considered ancient by todays standards. From the time I was 11 to 14, I was playing in the school advanced band, playing a variation of drums and piano percussion instruments, such as the xylophone. I was still working on the piano, most of all, at the time being more influencedtowards musicals, oldies, and jazz. I started to appreciate the direction of the styles of electronic music more and more as it was evolving. By the time I was almost 15, I was enrolled in choir, and was producing a music style sort of a cross between oldies and calypso bossanova jazz, with vocals. I had the worst of equipment (an 1800's upright piano, a casio, and a karaoke machine) but I kept on expressing my music energy. Over the next three years, although I still had never been to a venue, I listened to a lot of different developed styles of techno. I still was not fully considering producing electronica. When I actually went to my first event in 96, the sounds of deep acid trance filled my soul and I new I had found a calling. After spending the next 3 years becoming more familiar with the workings of the electronic scene, I finally had the money to purchase my first piece of equipment (I have always been a poor, unfunded musician). Three months after that, I was hired to my first electronic music gig (31 Flaverz 2000, in a side room), using that one piece of equipment. Since then, I have played many club events, desert parties, Internet Radio (a few different stations), etc. To this day, I still use that one instrument, which I exploit to its fullest extent, along with others. Because of friends and partners, I have lately been allowed to further progress my evolution of spiritual music energy using a large pallete of electronic instruments. For that I am so completely thankful. The future should bring many more complex compositions to an audible state as they continue to leak out of my mind. I currently work with a laptop, a sound card, and an array of hard gear and soft synth programs, along with sequencing programs. From what I have learned and observed from the universe and its workings, my soul is extremely old, like the Earth. It is made up of pure energy, similar to electricity, yet more intelligent. I feel this power of creation flowing through me, and I choose to manipulate it through music. I feel I have composed music since the begining of time, the time my soul truly emerged from the cosmos. Music is the true language of the universe, compiled of pure mathematical frequencies. Releasing musical energy cleanses and directs the soul towards growth. Each piece of music contains true meaning, feeling and being. These three "ings" affect each and every one of us in a different way. Some find it more describable than others. I believe in the 13:20 way of life, which pertains to the Mayan calender and true mastering of time. Music's foundation is time; all music is based on a time signature. A part of the 13:20 way of life is to feel earth as a natural, pulsating, living being with a constant rythym. I feel most that indigenous cultures recognize this, and express it through tribal rythyms and chanting. Although I recognize this as well, I live in an time and place of electronic development. With that in mind, I follow others in the spiritual electronic music movement. Electronics give my soul a virtually infinite amount of room for my imagination to express itself. Every day my soul is evolving, along with its creativity. More and more each day, my brain trains itself to act as a radio and channel the frequencies of the universe through the Zuvuya, and create the cosmic compositions that one hears from my workings. I feel more people these days need to connect with the universe through their inner spirit, and balance their energies to complete themselves; to be enlightened, as the great Buddha would say. It is for this reason I chose the name Bodhisattva for myself--to encourage others to follow the path of enlightenment through the cosmic energy concentration we label today as "spiritua electronica." With electronics, the evolution of music is inevitible. Keep in mind that the direction of the evolution of this genre is something we as a whole may not be able to comprehend, as is the same for the cosmic universe in its entirety. I am very
thankful that I am able to take part in the Native:State movement,
as the beliefs of this community as a whole are in one direction.
My beliefs are always evolving, and are still undefined, and may never
be defined. It is very important to be undefined, as it leaves room
for growing. The whole picture of this community is very beautiful,
with a common heartbeat. In a state of vigorous, demanding exercise,
such as dancing, the heart will beat at around 72BPM. To coincide
with this, all of my trance tracks are at 144BPM, in order to acoustically
match the pulse of the spirit, and bring it to a higher level. This
and other traits of my music are intended to transcend the soul of
the listener to a higher state of consciousness. Many Native American
communities, such as the Mound Builders of the midwest, built temples
that were acoustically designed to achieve this same effect. They
would sit inside the temple, and beat their drums at a certain BPM
to obtain the transcending effect. Some people see this as an escape,
others choose to view this manipulation as an evolution of reality.
I see it as a combination of the two. With these tribal ideas, combined
with present technology, I believe the human race can truly transcend
through music, and evolve. |
